About Us

There are seventeen Town Councillors representing around 8,500 residents, and they manage a budget of approximately £430,000. Unlike County Borough Councillors, they receive no pay or expenses – in other words, they give their services free to the residents they represent.

The Council has a Town Clerk & Responsible Financial Officer, who deals with all administration matters and to whom all correspondence should be addressed:- The Council also employ 9 full time and 3 part-time staff in addition to the Clerk.

Council meetings are held every month on the third Wednesday of the month. There are also Committee Meetings held at various intervals. These are Finance & General Purposes, Estates, Personnel and Festivals.

The Town Council is responsible for two community centres, which are available for hire to local community groups.

The Town Council also owns two community centres in outlying wards that are run by community volunteers.

The Town Council runs and maintains Skewen Park, Tennant Park and playgrounds in Llandarcy, Jersey Marine and Crymlyn Burrows.

The Town Council runs two festival events a year; a summer Fun Day in the Park, and funds a Christmas Parade, grotto and table sale in conjunction with a local school. The Town Council makes no profit from these events but hosts them to enable small charities and local groups, raise much needed funds.

The Town Council funds the supply of Christmas Lights for the main road in Skewen.
